Who we are

This service is operated as Dreamy Story. We are not yet incorporated, so there is no registered company name or number to give you — when there is, it will appear here.

For anything at all about your information — a question, a copy of what we hold, a correction, or deletion — write to hi@dreamystory.online and a person will answer. That address is the contact point for every right described on this page.

Who this app is for

Dreamy is a parent-operated tool. The account holder is an adult, and the decisions the app asks for — which story to make next, which words or ideas to teach, what a child is ready for — are all made by that adult. Children are expected to read and listen alongside a grown-up, using the grown-up's account. We do not build features that encourage a child to use Dreamy independently.

What we collect

From you, the adult

• Your email address and sign-in details, handled by Google Firebase Authentication. If you sign in with Google, we receive your email address and display name — never your Google password.
• The stories you create, including the story idea you typed and the settings you chose.
• Optional voice recordings, if you choose to record a narration (see below).
• Basic usage records — how many stories you have made, so we can apply your plan's limits.
• Toy photos you upload, if you use "Story of a Toy" to turn a real toy into a story character. We keep the toy photo alongside the character it produced, so the character can be redrawn later. See the next section.
• Messages you send us through the feedback box — what you wrote, your email address, and which page you were on, so we can understand the problem and reply.
• Your IP address — but only in our hosting provider's ordinary server logs, which record it against every request the way every website's do, for security and to diagnose faults. We do not store your IP address in our own records, and we do not use it to identify you or to limit what you can do. Those logs are kept briefly by Google Cloud and then discarded.

Toy photos

"Story of a Toy" asks for a picture of a real toy, which we store and use to draw an illustrated character from it. It is meant for the toy only. Every uploaded picture is checked automatically before anything else happens, and a photo with someone's face in it is rejected and not kept — we do not want photographs of people, and least of all of children. A hand holding the toy up is fine and is ignored when the character is drawn.

You can delete a toy character, and its photo, at any time.

About a child

Deliberately, as little as possible. A child profile holds only:

• a nickname or first name that you choose — we ask you not to use a full legal name, and the form is built for short nicknames;
• an age band (for example 3–5), not a date of birth;
• language preferences for their stories;
• a record of which words and ideas have appeared in stories they have read, so the learning trail can show progress.

We do not collect a child's real name, birthday, address, phone number, email, location, or voice, and we do not want photographs of children — the toy-photo feature described above rejects any picture with a face in it. There is no child login, so there are no child credentials. Everything above is attached to your adult account.

Voice recordings

Dreamy lets an adult record themselves narrating a story. This is parent narration — a parent, or another adult the child trusts, such as a grandparent, aunt, uncle, or adult sibling. A child's voice is never recorded, and the app has no feature that listens to a child.

Recordings are stored in a private location that has no public web address, and are played back through links that expire after an hour. You can delete a recording at any time from the story page.

One thing worth stating plainly: on plans that include accurate read-along highlighting, your recording is sent once to OpenAI to be transcribed, so we can line up the words on the page with your voice. That transcription returns word timings only. Your recording is not used to build a synthetic copy of your voice, and Dreamy does not offer voice cloning at all.

Who we share data with

We do not sell personal information, we do not share it with advertisers, and we run no third-party advertising or tracking. We use a small number of service providers to make the app work:

• OpenAI — writes the story text, generates the pictures, produces spoken narration, runs our safety checks, and (on plans with accurate read-along) transcribes a parent's recording. Content sent through OpenAI's API is not used to train their models by default.
• Google Cloud Platform — hosts the app and stores stories, images, and audio.
• Google Firebase — handles sign-in and account security.

How long we keep things

• Your stories and profiles — until you delete them, or until you close your account.
• Voice recordings — until you delete the recording or the story it belongs to.
• Stories made without an account — during this early-access phase, making a story needs a free account, so there are none of these any more. Any that were created earlier are deleted automatically after 30 days if no account claimed them.
• Toy photos you uploaded — until you delete the toy character they belong to, or close your account. A photo rejected by the safety check is never stored at all.
• Messages you send us — kept while we act on them and for a reasonable period afterwards so we can see what testers told us. Ask us and we will delete yours.
• Server logs — held by Google Cloud, our hosting provider, for a short period and then discarded. We keep no copy of our own.

Your choices

• Delete a story — from the story page or your dashboard.
• Delete a child profile — from the children page. This removes the profile and its learning history.
• Delete your account — from your account page, along with your stories, child profiles, learning history, recordings and your email address. How quickly depends on your account:
  • On a free trial, deletion is immediate. We show you exactly what will be destroyed, you type DELETE to confirm, and it is gone at once. Nothing is kept and nothing can be recovered.
  • On any other account, deletion is scheduled and completed after 30 days. Nothing changes in the meantime and you can cancel at any point during those 30 days; after that, nothing can be recovered.
• Ask us anything — including for a copy of what we hold about you, or for us to delete it. Contact details are below.

Your rights over your information

Wherever you live, and regardless of which law applies to you, we will honour all of the following. Write to hi@dreamystory.online and we will act within 30 days:

• Access — a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
• Correction — fix anything inaccurate or incomplete.
• Deletion — erase your information (you can also do this yourself from your account page).
• Portability — receive your stories and account data in a readable file you can take elsewhere.
• Restriction and objection — ask us to stop or limit a particular use of your information.
• Withdraw consent — at any time, without giving a reason. Withdrawing it doesn't undo what was lawful beforehand.
• Complain — if you are in the UK or EU you may complain to your national data protection authority, and you do not need to contact us first (though we would rather you did, so we can fix it).

We do not charge for any of this, and exercising any of these rights will never affect your access to Dreamy.

Where your information is held

Dreamy runs on Google Cloud Platform, and the AI models that write stories and check them for safety are operated by OpenAI. This means your information is stored and processed on servers in the United States and other countries, which may be outside the country you live in.

Both providers offer standard contractual protections for international transfers of this kind, and we rely on those. If you are in the UK or EU and want the specifics of the safeguards in place, ask us and we will tell you.

Children's privacy

Dreamy is directed at parents and other adults, not at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from a child. Because we ask only for a nickname and an age band, and never for the identifying details a children's privacy law is concerned with, a child's personal information should never reach us in the ordinary use of the app.

If you believe a child has given us personal information — for example by typing a real full name into a story idea — contact us and we will delete it.

Your stories are private

Stories you make are private to your account. There is currently no way to publish or share them publicly — not by you, and not by us. They are visible only to you when signed in.

The stories in our public library are ones we write and curate ourselves. Yours are never added to it.

The same goes for anything you record: a narration stays private to your account, and is never attached to a public page.

We may add a sharing option later — something families ask for. If we do, it will be off by default and entirely your choice, sharing a story and sharing a recording of your voice will be two separate decisions, and we will update this page and tell account holders before anything changes.

Safety checks

Every story idea is checked automatically before a story is written, and the finished story and its pictures are checked as well. Ideas that aren't right for a children's story are declined. These checks are always on.

Cookies and browser storage

We use no advertising cookies, no analytics cookies and no third-party trackers. Dreamy stores only what it needs to work:

• a sign-in cookie, so you stay logged in between visits — set by Google Firebase Authentication;
• a short-lived session cookie, used for things like remembering a story you made before signing up so it can be added to your account;
• a small amount of browser storage on your own device holding your reading preferences, such as light, sepia or dark mode. This never leaves your browser and we never see it.

Security

Data is stored on Google Cloud Platform and protected by their infrastructure security. Sign-in is handled by Firebase Authentication, so we never see or store your password. Voice recordings are kept in private storage with no public address. Access to production data is limited to the people who operate the service.

Changes

If we change how we handle your information, we will update this page and change the date at the top. If a change is significant, we will tell account holders directly.

Use this in particular if you want a copy of your data, a correction, or deletion; if you have closed your account or cannot sign in; or if you are not a Dreamy user at all — for example, if you believe a child's details have reached us. You never need an account to exercise any right on this page.
